The road to the championship featured plenty of exciting basketball, but in the end it was the #1 seeded The Leftovers proving exactly why they entered the playoffs as the team to beat. After receiving a first round bye, The Leftovers opened the postseason with a convincing victory over #8 Hoop N Poop, who earned their quarterfinal berth after advancing past #9 Bricks "R" Us. Meanwhile, #4 Hoop Houndz edged #5 City of Threes in a competitive three game series, #2 Juice Krew handled #7 Bea$t Mode, and #3 Bots rolled past #6 The Dream Beam to round out the semifinal field.
Championship night belonged to the top seeds. The Leftovers took care of business against Hoop Houndz in straight games, while Juice Krew earned their spot in the finals with an impressive sweep of Bots. That set up the highly anticipated showdown between the tournament's top two seeds, a fitting championship matchup between the league's best teams.
The finals delivered exactly the kind of intensity fans hoped for. Game 1 was a back and forth battle, with neither team able to pull away until late. Locked in a tight contest, The Leftovers buried a clutch three pointer in the closing moments to secure a hard fought 21-18 victory and take the early series lead.
If Game 1 was close, Game 2 was even more dramatic. The Leftovers came out firing and built what looked like a comfortable 19-10 advantage, but Juice Krew had other plans. Refusing to let the championship slip away, they stormed back with an incredible rally, cutting the deficit all the way to 19-18 and putting real pressure on the top seed. Just when it seemed momentum had completely shifted, The Leftovers stayed composed, made the plays they needed down the stretch, and escaped with another 21-18 victory to move within one game of the title.
With the championship on the line, The Leftovers once again showed why they earned the #1 seed all season long. The decisive third game mirrored the first two, competitive from start to finish with neither squad willing to give an inch. But for the third straight game, The Leftovers found just enough offense and timely defense to finish on top, closing out the series with yet another 21-18 win to complete the sweep and capture the Monday Basketball Championship.
