Salsa Verde Holds Opponents Scoreless En Route To Championship

Our Late Summer Thursday Soccer league came to an exciting conclusion last night as our championship game took place after our regular season games wrapped up.

The top team in the league, "Salsa Verde" had already secured their spot in the final, but they didn't rest on their laurels, instead finishing the regular season on a high note, defeating "Blue Balls" by a score of 4-0. Meanwhile, the stakes were high in the final regular season game between "The Real Team A" and "Red Vipers". The winning team would play for the championship immediately following their game while the loser would head home without a trophy and only their thoughts of what could have been to keep them company. "The Real Team A" despite trailing the "Red Vipers" slightly in the standings heading into play, proved they were the stronger team, at least in head to head play, as they defeated "Red Vipers" for the third and decisive time this season.

Thus our championship game was set between two well oiled soccer machines, "Salsa Verde" and "The Real Team A". Although "Salsa Verde" held a 2-1 advantage head to head during the season, "The Real Team A" came into the game with confidence having won the most recent match between the squads only one week prior. If it was a near pick em game on paper the action on the pitch lived up to the billing. Both teams were stout defensively and the goalkeepers passed each test until a single goal put in the back of the net by "Salsa Verde" sealed the deal.

Congratulations to "Salsa Verde" and to all of the teams that competed in a great Soccer season.

How are Standings Calculated?
Winners receive 2 points, each team in a tie receives 1 point, and losers receive 0 points. If you forfeit, you lose a point, so don't forfeit! Plus, two forfeits make your team ineligible for playoffs.

Teams are ranked by (1) Ranking Points, (2) Head to Head Two Teams Only*, (3) Point Differential, (4) Coin Toss.

Head to Head is only used if there are two teams tied. Ties involving 3+ teams disregard H2H and move on to point differential for the tiebreaker.
º Forfeits
Parenthesized numbers indicate wins or losses by forfeit.
When calculating Ranking Points, forfeits may be weighted differently than normal wins and losses.
