If there was one word to describe Monday's playoff action, it would be close. The top four teams delivered an unforgettable postseason filled with one run games, clutch performances, and highlight reel defensive efforts. When the final out was recorded, it was #3 seed The Rubberduckies completing an impressive playoff run by knocking off the top seed to claim the championship.
The semifinals featured two nail biters from start to finish. #1 Rockin' the 'Dish narrowly escaped #4 Scared Hitless with a 6-5 victory, surviving a relentless upset bid. Even in defeat, Scared Hitless nearly produced one of the plays of the night when Christina came within inches of making a spectacular fully laid out catch down the left field foul line. On the other side of the bracket, #3 The Rubberduckies took down #2 Untouchaballs by a score of 6-3, with Untouchaballs' Johnny nearly stealing the spotlight with an incredible diving attempt in shallow right center that just slipped out of his glove.
That set up a championship showdown between #1 Rockin' the 'Dish and #3 The Rubberduckies, and it delivered everything you could ask for. The teams battled back and forth throughout the game before The Rubberduckies found their breakthrough in the top of the sixth inning. With the pressure at its highest, Tash came through with a clutch two RBI fielder's choice to give the Rubberduckies the lead. In the bottom half, Devin, who had already pitched 12 innings across both playoff games dug deep one final time, escaping a tense two on, one out jam to preserve a thrilling 7-6 championship victory.
Congratulations to The Rubberduckies on an incredible championship run! As the #3 seed, they knocked off the #2 seed before taking down the #1 seed in a dramatic title game, proving that postseason baseball is all about rising to the moment. Hats off to Rockin' the 'Dish, Untouchaballs, and Scared Hitless for an outstanding night of competitive softball and one fantastic way to wrap up the season. đ„đ
