The Downtown Playoff Division championship belonged to the #1 seed Swamp Donkeys, who backed up their regular season standing with a flawless playoff run and a title at Roosevelt Park. In the semifinals, the Donkeys came out swinging and shut out the #4 seed Wolf Pack in dominant fashion, 9-0, punching their ticket to the finals with authority. On the other side of the bracket, the #2 seed The Hit Squad handled business as well, defeating the #3 seed Crunchwrap Crows by a 6-0 score to set up a heavyweight championship showdown between the top two seeds.
The finals started as a pitcherβs duel, with both teams locked in a scoreless battle through the first two innings. In the third inning, the Swamp Donkeys finally broke through with two runs, then completely seized momentum with a huge four run fourth inning. The Hit Squad refused to go quietly and answered back in the bottom half of the inning, cutting the deficit and keeping the championship within reach.
With pressure building late, the Swamp Donkeys delivered the knockout blow in the top of the sixth inning with a clutch inside the park home run that helped seal the victory. The Hit Squad battled until the final out, but the comeback fell short as the #1 seed Swamp Donkeys closed out a 9-6 championship win to claim the Downtown Uppers Division crown. From start to finish, the Donkeys proved they were the team to beat all season long. ππ₯
