The Beginner Friday Volleyball League wrapped up an exciting season at Turn Verein with a championship night that perfectly reflected the growth and competitiveness shown by all teams throughout the fall. Week after week, teams improved their chemistry and confidence, leading to a playoff night filled with energy, long rallies, and a dramatic finish that crowned the Ball Slappers as league champions.
The Ball Slappers entered the playoffs as the #3 seed after a steady and consistent regular season. Along the way, they earned key wins against Sets in the City, Chewblockas, and I’d Hit That, and finished strong with victories late in the season that secured their spot near the top of the standings. While they may not have been the highest seed, their ability to stay composed and play clean volleyball made them a dangerous matchup heading into postseason play.
In the semifinals on December 19, the Ball Slappers faced the #2 seed Just Get it Over and delivered one of their best performances of the season, sweeping the match 2–0 to advance to the finals. On the other side of the bracket, top-seeded Hits N Gigs battled the #4 seed Set, Spike, Slay in a competitive semifinal, ultimately winning 2–1 to earn their place in the championship match. Hits N Gigs had dominated much of the regular season, earning the #1 seed with multiple sweep victories and consistent performances against every team in the league.
The finals featured a highly anticipated matchup between #1 seed Hits N Gigs and #3 seed Ball Slappers, and it lived up to the hype. Hits N Gigs struck first, winning the opening set 21–16 and putting early pressure on the Ball Slappers. Rather than backing down, the Ball Slappers responded with focus and energy, taking the second set 21–16 to force a deciding third set. With the championship on the line, the Ball Slappers stayed locked in and closed out the final set by the same score, 21–16, completing the comeback and securing the league title.
The championship run by the Ball Slappers was a great example of perseverance and growth in a beginner league setting, proving that seeding doesn’t always determine the outcome when teams continue to improve and trust each other. Congratulations to the Ball Slappers on a well-earned championship, and a huge thank you to all teams for a fun, competitive, and sportsmanlike season. We look forward to seeing everyone back on the court for the next session at Turn Verein.
