Los Gigantes are Livin Large

Our Spring 2015 Wednesday Soccer league wrapped up last night with a single elimination, winner take all playoff between the leagues top 4 teams. Bragging rights, family honor and an Elixir bar tab were at stake.

The action got underway with the #1 seed "Los Gigantes" taking on the upset minded #4 seed "Green Lanterns". Despite finishing the season with a losing record, the Green Lanterns played gallantly and gave Los Gigantes a run for their money before ultimately succumbing to the more talented top seed 3-1.

In our second semi-final the #2 seed Sheer Gold took on #3 seed Team B in a rematch of a regular season clash that ended in a 2-2 tie. The game featured strong defense and a couple timely shots on goal as Team B escaped with a 2-1 win.

Thus our championship match was set between Los Gigantes and Team B. The two squads had met twice previously in the season with Los Gigantes coming away with a 3 goal advantage in each contest. However, it was evident early in the championship game that Team B had learned from those loses and made the necessary adjustments to improve their chances. Los Gigantes remained poised and demonstrated why they were the leagues top team with exceptional passing and controlled the ball for the majority of the action during the game. As the final whistle blew it was Los Gigantes on top by a 2-1 score.

Congratulations to Los Gigantes and to all of the teams that competed in a great Soccer season.

How are Standings Calculated?
Winners receive 2 points, each team in a tie receives 1 point, and losers receive 0 points. If you forfeit, you lose a point, so don't forfeit! Plus, two forfeits make your team ineligible for playoffs.

Teams are ranked by (1) Ranking Points, (2) Head to Head Two Teams Only*, (3) Point Differential, (4) Coin Toss.

Head to Head is only used if there are two teams tied. Ties involving 3+ teams disregard H2H and move on to point differential for the tiebreaker.
º Forfeits
Parenthesized numbers indicate wins or losses by forfeit.
When calculating Ranking Points, forfeits may be weighted differently than normal wins and losses.
