The Thursday Beginner league came to an exciting close as the top five teams battled for bragging rights and the championship trophy. All season long, these squads traded wins, built rivalries, and delivered some incredible matches at the Mather Sports Center. The playoffs were no different, bringing back familiar matchups with everything on the line.
In the semifinals, DIG stayed true to form with a confident win over B.O.W., once again proving why they were one of the toughest teams all season. Andy L’s reliable hitting and DIG’s steady teamwork sealed the sweep. On the other side of the bracket, Vietnam VBC squared off with Kristen Of A Down in what felt like a continuation of their August showdown. The rematch was another battle, but Vietnam VBC found their rhythm,, with Christopher C anchoring the defense and pushing them into the finals.
That set up the ultimate clash: DIG vs. Vietnam VBC. The two had split their regular season meetings, so the championship felt like the perfect rubber match. From the first serve, DIG looked locked in and they passed well, never got rattled, and played with the confidence of a team that had been building toward this moment all season. With Reynaldo R helping to lead the way, DIG closed out the match in straight sets, 21–14 and 21–13, and earned their long-awaited first title.
From nail-biting three-setters earlier in the season to dominant playoff performances, this league had it all. Congratulations to DIG, the Thursday Beginner Volleyball Champions and thank you to every team for bringing the energy all season long. Thursday nights wouldn’t be the same without you!
