The playoff night for Late Fall Wednesday Cornhole was a good one! After some tough quarterfinal and semifinal games the #5 seed "The Dirty Nerdies" set out to play #3 seed "If You're Not First, You're Last" in the Final Round, with eternal glory and a $50 Alley Katz bar tab at stake.
In the first match, Robin Trevor & Victoria Borruso (If You're Not First) faced off against Roger Bohon & Nick Mosley (Nerdies). These games were intense to watch, as each player hit Cornhole after Cornhole. Roger scored first, but every sequential round had Victoria, Nick or Robin bouncing their bags into the hole. With Roger sinking two bags in the last round, Nerdies secured the first win. The second match saw Hannah Careway & Peter Borruso (If You're Not First) face off against Cori Hampton & Nick. This match had more cancellations and board scores than the first: as Peter and Hannah sank their bags, Nick and Cori answered back; a lot of strategy around crowding the hole in this match, as players accidentally knocked opponent bags in -- Hannah and Peter tie it up by winning the 2nd Match!
The 3rd Match had Robin & Victoria face Roger & Cori, and although Nerdies took the lead quickly in the beginning 9-1, Robin & Victoria battled back -- tie it 14-14, with Robin sinking two Cornholes on the last round to pull ahead. If You're Not First leads 2 games to 1! In the 4th, Hannah & Peter faced Roger & Nick, who would close the last two matches: Roger and Nick sank and rolled their bags to victory, with Roger sinking 3 cornholes in one round (as well as he and Hannah sniping each other's bags off the board!). Nerdies tie up the matches 2-2!
The final round had Roger & Nick facing off against Victoria & Robin: these two teams were a great match, because as soon as Robin would sink one, Nick would answer back with his own -- Victoria and Roger had the same cancellations on their round. The game stayed close and tied up, until the second to last round...After Nick sank a Cornhole, he uttered, "Jesus, take the wheel!" as he threw -- and SCORE! Robin was able to cancel one out, but the Nerdies had already pulled ahead. In the last round, Roger sank THREE BAGS with Victoria bouncing one of hers in for a cancel...The Dirty Nerdies take the Championship prize! We'll see both teams return in the Winter Season to renew their friendly rivalry after such a great night!
