Our Fall 2014 Tuesday Kickball season concluded last night with a fantastic evening of playoff action. The winning team had a Benny's and Southern Comfort tab awaiting them, but it wouldn't be an easy road to claim the leagues top spot. Which team would seize the moment?
Our quarterfinal games got underway with #1 seed "Sofa King Winning" sending a message that they meant business rolling to a 9-0 win over #8 "Pitch, Who Do You Love?". #2 seed "Chicks With Kicks" survived against hungry underdogs "Blue Ball$ Deeeep" by a final score of 2-1. #3 seed and defending champion "Team Kick-a-Rita" showed why they were one of the top contenders winning their opening round 9-1 against an overmatched "Ball Me Maybe" team. To complete the quarterfinal games, #5 seed "Brews On First" pulled the only upset of the opening round taking down #4 seed "Purple Reign" 3-1 in a well played game.
In our first semi-final "Sofa King Winning" got all they could handle from "Brews On First" in a defensive gem. Ultimately "Sofa King Winning" the leagues top team in the regular season scored the only run of the game and held on for a 1-0 victory. Our second semi-final featured a clash of titans as "Chicks With Kicks" stymied "Team Kick-a-Rita's" offense and sent our defending champs home early with a 3-0 victory.
At the end of the night all of the teams had fallen by the wayside with the exception of two. #1 seed "Sofa King Winning" and #2 seed "Chicks With Kicks". This game was for all the marbles and the fans would not be disappointed.
It was a quick first inning with a few people getting on base but no runs. Chelsea made a sacrifice kick to bring Carl in for the first run for "Sofa King Winning" in the second inning. Brandon kicked a double and brought his teammate Dan home for the second run for SKW. A lot of base kicks from both teams in the third and fourth innings, till the bottom of the fourth when Andy kicked a pop fly that was dropped and allowed Zack to make the first point for "Chicks With Kicks". That wasn't the only score of the inning, Ellery bunted down the first base line to bring Andy home. Mindy and Sam were the next two runs made by "Chicks With Kicks" in the bottom of the fourth. The fifth inning had several good base hits but no runs for either team. Calvin got a base hit and brought David home for SKW's third run. However it was not enough to overcome "Chicks With Kick's" 4-3 lead in the final inning.
Congratulations to "Chicks With Kicks" and to all of the teams that competed in a great kickball season.
