Our Summer 2014 Friday Cornhole league wrapped up on Friday with a thrilling night of playoffs. The leagues top 6 teams entered the stage of competition with their sights set squarely on winning the championship and attaining the everlasting glory that accompanies it.
In the opening round, the #3 seed Colonels and #4 seed Tossers of Thunder were victorious by way of forfeit. We knew we were in for a treat in the first semi-final, as the 3 time champions, and #1 seed Cornhorn Tossers took on The Tossers of Thunder who were equipped with the fearsome twosome of Josh and Juan who helped dethrone the Cornhorn Tossers in the previous season. It was a match for the history books and one that was destined to go the full 5 games. Tied at 2 games a piece with neither team being able to gain an advantage over the other, the Cornhorn Tossers pulled out the decisive 5th game and secured their spot in the final.
Meanwhile in the second semi-final, #2 seed Bag Em & Tag Em took on #3 seed Colonels. Bag Em & Tag Em had been flying under the radar all season, but they were poised and ready to strike in the playoffs and they rolled to a 3-1 victory.
Spectators were in for a great final as Bag Em & Tag Em and The Cornhorn Tossers went back alternating victories in the first three games. With The Cornhorn Tossers up 2-1 and Bag Em & Tag Em's back against the wall, they responded with a solid win in the fourth game. As the teams battled down the stretch in the 5th and final game The Cornhorn Tossers maintained a healthy lead. In one of the most dramatic finishes in Cornhole history, on the verge of defeat Stef from Bag Em & Tag Em sank 4 bags in a row to win the championship in style.
