Cornhole - Wednesdays (Summer '14)

Our Summer 2014 Wednesday Cornhole season wrapped up last night with an eagerly anticipated rematch between the leagues top two teams, Rick Flair and Holy Moly.

For the second season in a row Rick Flair entered the championship game as the favorite amassing an outstanding 7-1 regular season record. After having fallen in the finals last season following an undefeated regular season campaign, they came in to this championship game primed and focused on the challenge that lay before them in Wednesday newcomers Holy Moly.

Holy Moly, veterans of the Friday cornhole league, have been a perennial playoff team in that league, but have never been able to get over the hump and bring home a title. Their lone defeat this season came at the hands of Rick Flair and they had been looking forward to a rematch since that fateful night.

The finals match was a best of 3 games format, rather than the 4 game format that is used in the regular season. Both teams grasped the importance of getting off to a strong start, and it showed as the two teams battled neck and neck throughout the first game with neither team being able to gain more than a point or two advantage during the game. With the score 20-19 in Holy Moly's favor they were able to sink a decisive toss to eek out the first game.

As the second game began the tension was palpable. The crowd was fixated on the action, as each toss held great significance. Holy Moly jumped out to an early lead, but Rick Flair answered with some clutch throws of their own to narrow the gap to a 13-9 Holy Moly lead. Just as it appeared we were heading for another photo finish, Holy Moly sunk 3 bags in a row to capture the upset victory 2-0 and win the championship.

Congratulations to Holy Moly, Rick Flair and to all of the teams that competed in a great cornhole season!
