Volleyball - Mondays: Intermediate at SASF (Summer '26)

The competition was anything but ordinary at Sacramento Asian Sports Foundation on October 12 as our Intermediate Volleyball teams battled for the championship title! With six teams entering the playoff bracket, the stakes were high, the rallies were intense, and there was absolutely no room for error. From an early upset to a championship match that went the distance, this playoff night had a little bit of everything!

The quarterfinals kicked things off with #4 seed Unprotected Sets taking on #5 seed Block Clover in a competitive showdown. Neither team was ready to call it a season, but Unprotected Sets managed to pull ahead and secure a hard-fought 2-1 victory to advance to the semifinals. Meanwhile, #6 seed Team B came into the playoffs with something to prove, facing off against #3 seed No Diggity. In the first major upset of the evening, Team B stunned the higher seed with an impressive 2-0 sweep! Talk about showing up when it matters most! With the quarterfinals complete, the stage was set for the top two seeds to enter the action.

In the semifinals, #1 seed Koobhmoov made their playoff debut against Unprotected Sets, and the regular season leaders wasted no time showing why they earned the top spot. Koobhmoov delivered a commanding 2-0 victory, ending Unprotected Sets' championship hopes and securing their place in the finals. On the other side of the bracket, #2 seed Gas Break Dig faced the Cinderella story of the evening, Team B. Unfortunately for the underdogs, their magical run came to an end as Gas Break Dig powered through with a 2-0 sweep of their own. With both top seeds advancing without dropping a set, the championship was officially set for a battle between the league's two best teams!

The finals brought everything fans could have hoped for as #1 Koobhmoov and #2 Gas Break Dig squared off for the ultimate prize! Gas Break Dig came out firing in the opening set, establishing an early advantage and taking the first game 21-13. But Koobhmoov wasn't about to let their championship dreams slip away that easily! The top seed responded with an incredible effort in the second set, battling point for point before edging out Gas Break Dig 21-19. With the match tied at one set apiece, it all came down to one final game to determine who would walk away as champions!

With the championship hanging in the balance, Gas Break Dig rose to the occasion, putting together one last impressive performance to take the deciding set 21-17! After surrendering the second set by just two points, the #2 seed regrouped and found a way to finish the job. Their 2-1 championship victory capped off an outstanding playoff run, knocking off the league's #1 seed and proving that second place in the regular season doesn't mean settling for second when it matters most!

A HUGE congratulations to Gas Break Dig, our Intermediate Volleyball Champions! 🏆🏐 From sweeping their semifinal matchup to surviving a thrilling three-set championship battle, these champs earned every bit of their victory! Shoutout to Koobhmoov for an incredible season and a hard fought finals appearance, and to Team B for pulling off the quarterfinal upset that kept everyone on their toes. Thank you to all six teams for bringing the competition, energy, and excitement to SASF.
