Volleyball - Thursdays: Beginner at MSC (Summer '26)

Thursday Beginner Volleyball at Mather Sports Center wrapped up with a championship battle that needed all three sets to decide a winner! The four team playoff field featured #1 Horns Down, #2 The Stingers, #3 Deez Nuts, and #4 Rainbeaus, and while the top seed ultimately took home the title, they definitely had to earn it.

The semifinals began with #1 Horns Down facing #4 Rainbeaus, and Horns Down looked every bit like the top seed. They picked up a 2-0 sweep to advance straight into the championship match. On the other side of the bracket, #3 Deez Nuts pulled off the upset against #2 The Stingers, earning a 2-0 sweep of their own and setting up a #1 vs. #3 battle for the championship.

The finals were easily the closest match of the night. Horns Down struck first with a 21-17 win in the opening set, putting themselves just one victory away from the title. Deez Nuts refused to go quietly, though. Set two went beyond the normal 21 point finish as the teams battled back and forth, with Deez Nuts eventually taking it 22-20 to force a winner take all third set. 🔥

With the championship coming down to one final set, Horns Down showed why they earned that #1 seed. They regrouped after dropping their first set of the night and came through with another 21-17 victory, taking the match 2-1 and officially becoming Thursday Beginner Volleyball champions at MSC! 🏆

Congratulations to #1 Horns Down on finishing their season on top! They went into playoffs as the team to beat, swept their semifinal, and then survived a huge challenge from #3 Deez Nuts to secure the championship. Shoutout to Deez Nuts on an impressive playoff run and for pushing the top seed all the way to a deciding third set, and thank you to all four teams for another great season at MSC! 🏐🎉
