Sausage Sampler Championship!

Sausage Sampler: Varsity defeats Sausage Sampler: Banger

Wow, what a night! While the Wednesday night playoffs featured some blowouts, the Thursday playoffs were neck and neck in almost every matchup!

In the first round, the #1 seeded Hot Dogs and Tacos squared off against the #8 seeded Taint Funny and won, 7-1.

The #2 seeded Sausage Sampler: Varsity had a rematch against the Fat Crackers. Earlier in the season, the Fat Crackers held a lead of two games, only to see SS Varsity storm back to win as time expired. Tonight was almost as close. With the score tied at 2, SS Varsity had more players on the court, and Fat Crackers were down to their final player. In a strategic move, the final player walked off the court, conceding the game, with the hopes that there was enough time to start one more game which they could tie, forcing overtime. Unfortunately, the strategy came about 20 seconds too late, and there was no time left to start another game. SS Varsity won, 3-2.

The Ball Gobblers and the STDs faced off in another close contest. After the match time expired, they were all knotted up, at 5-5. In the overtime game, the Ball Gobblers emerged victorious, but tired, with the win, 6-5.

At the same time, the other Sausage Sampler team, SS Banger, was matched up with Rags to Bitches in a tight race to move on. Again, time expired with the score tied, and Sausage Sampler: Banger won the overtime game to move on with a score of 4-3.

In the semi-finals, SS Varsity knocked off the Ball Gobblers, who barely had time to rest after their overtime victory in the previous round. SS Banger faced the defending champions, and big first round winners, Hot Dogs and Tacos. It was another close match, with the score tied at 2 before SS Banger won the final two games to force an all Sausage Sampler championship game.

The two teams, who formed their rosters with a private "draft" at MVPs, are all good friends. It was an easy game for the officials since there was hardly any arguing or unsportsmanlike conduct. In the end, it was 3-3 with time ticking down. Erin Stinson, who has risen to the occasion before, was unable to knock down an Ollie Shot in the final minutes. SS Varsity finally hit her, winning the game, and championship, against their friends and rivals.

Congratulations on a great season SS Varsity, SS Banger, and the rest of the playoff and non-playoff teams. See you next season!
