Money Shot gets Revenge!
Three weeks ago Money Shot was a team at tied for first place in the standings, with title aspirations, and plenty of confidence. Heading into last night's dodgeball playoffs, the only thing left was their confidence. Three weeks ago they tied Rice Crackers 3-3. Two weeks ago they got shellacked by the other 1st place team, D3: The Mighty Drunks, 6-0. One week ago they lost to More Balls than Brains, 5-4, and fell to the 4th seeded playoff team in the process.
D3: The Mighty Drunks, having retooled their team after an unexpected playoff run from the 8th seed the previous season, was the team to beat, having picked up steam and steamrolled through the season. They entered the playoffs riding the momentum of the win over Money Shot and then Team AP in the final week.
In the first round of the playoffs last night, D3 continued their dominance, winning 7-0 over Out Like a Fat Kid, a perennial playoff team. Money Shot shook off their losing streak, and defeated Team AP 6-2.
In the other bracket, More Balls than Brains cruised to a 9-1 victory over Dunder Mifflin: Season 2, while the Drunk Assholes defeated the Rice Crackers, 4-1.
In the semi-final grudge match between Money Shot and D3: The Mighty Drunks, Money Shot showed they wanted it more, winning 6-2 and getting revenge for getting blanked 6-0 two weeks earlier. Meanwhile, More Balls than Brains ensured that they would get a rematch of the previous week, defeating the Drunk Assholes 6-2.
More Balls than Brains, also a perennial playoff team, but yet to win a championship, had hopes of an identical outcome to the prior week, when they beat Money Shot 5-4. It seemed like it was headed that direction when they took a 3-2 lead with 8 minutes to go. More Balls than Brains leapt ahead in the game, but Money Shot made some key catches to swing the momentum and ultimately tied the match at 3-3. The final game was a great one, going back and forth before More Balls than Brains was down to its final player. After a few minutes of dodging, shooting, and throwing, Money Shot was able to knock the ball out of the hands of More Balls than Brains' final player, giving them the championship, and sweet revenge for their two losses in the preceding weeks.
Congratulations to Money Shot, and all the teams in our great Wednesday dodgeball season!
